Subject:Re: Help with KX Project Drivers for SBLive! 5.1
That's what I thought **should** happen, but it didn't. I let XP
auto-detect-and-configure the card, and after making this card my
default sound device it worked. However there has been an update to
SBLive! drivers since XP was released. After necessary reboots to
make the new hardware and driver installs take effect, and verifying
that sound still worked, I went right to installation of the KX
Project drivers. Install went clean, however after the necessary
reboot following the installation, and checking to insure that this
card was the default, I had no sound. I tried every conceivable
slider setting in the KX Mixer, and after reading the troubleshooting
section indicating that the front and rear speakers were reversed by
default, I first tried changing the desktop speakers to the rear-out
jack on the SB (no sense in introducing my instrument rig if I can't
even get it to work out of the desktop speakers!). After that didn't
work I returned the speakers to the normal output, and then
interacted with the mixer setting to "toggle front and rear...", and
that didn't work. I tried various things (playing MP3s, using CDs,
running the B4 Demo, etc.) still no sound. B4 sound was a little
choppy until I turned up the play ahead (increasing the latency).
At that point I uninstalled the KX Project and any remnants of the
sound card drivers and resources, rebooted and again let Windows auto-
detect-and-configure. I had sound again and proceeded to download
the LiveDrive Uni-Pack and the LiveDrive Driver Update, performed the
necessary reboots, and had my sound restored, although the lowest
latency I could achieve was about 25 ms before the B4 started
to "click chop".
I'll have to go back and check the release notes. This should have
been easier than it was. I'm feeling like the days of Windows 3.1...
Regards,
Kevin
