This sounds like an earthing problem with the power supply circuit. I had to periodically fix the problem by tightening the screws holding the power supply circuit board to the chassis. .. The problem started for me by the vk7 rebooting at crucial musical climaxes (when I'd be hitting the keyboard a bit harder ... a hangover from being a piano player)

Any VK-7 owners ever have their clone refuse to power up?
As I set mine up for church band rehearsal tonight, I noticed that screen didn't display the Roland logo, altho it did light up somewhat. I unplugged it and tried a different cord. At first the logo came up - then the whole screen went blank.
Dead.
No smell of ozone tho, so hopefully it didn't fry anything. Perhaps a short to the power supply?
Time to visit the repair shop *sigh*
