Subject:Re: Organ feature tunes in bar-band

Jake -

Good idea. We do just what you suggested in my band. We have a front man, A.J., who is a real crowd pleaser...a very entertaining fellow. We do all the cover tunes our own way. We just hired a new bass player (a real monster on bass, name of Kevin Edwards). I burned him a CD of all the cover tunes we do. I attached a note saying, just learn the verse / chorus / bridge and what key each song is in but not to worry much about the rhythm or the arrangement. A.J. likes to play "mix n match" with the arrangements and rhythms, jumping from verse to chorus, adding solos, etc., all depending on the crowd and what's happening on the dance floor. We like to kid him and say he's got more hand signals than a third base coach. But it's all good fun...keeps you on your toes too!

Some Alternative thoughts: Try playing some of the songs mentioned
without copying them note for note, and at tempos you like. Put your
own touches and arrangements on them, while making them still very
recognizable - possibly even more enjoyable to a bar crowd that loves
your version.
