But with my 25 year background in EE and CS and my innate need to
tinker with something, that would take all the fun out of it :)
Seriously this is not my most complex undertaking. Back in the 80s I
built a microprocessor (Motorola 6800) based serial-to-MIDI
controller off of the MPU 401 spec before the 401 was in widespread
production. They still never came out with a serial version which I
used to communicate MIDI to and from a UNIX workstation and a crude-
primitive sequencer I wrote in C.
Main cpu board was hand wirewrapped, a cross assembler was written
from scratch along with a comm program to load an EPROM burner with
the resulting microcode which I also wrote.
With what is available these days compared to the 80s this is a walk
in the park!
