Subject:RE: Question on M3 drawbar voicings - unit appears "inconsistent"
The reason for the 2 brown deawbars missing on the lower manual. On a spinnett the left hand is played on the lower manual. The brown drawbars are an octave too low for that. Therefore they would serve no purpose if they were there. Bill

Subject: [CWSG] Question on M3 drawbar voicings - unit appears "inconsistent"
To anybody who can answer this...
I just purchased a set of M3 drawbars off of e-bay. It will be a
couple of weeks before they are in my possession and in the meantime
I only have a picture off of e-bay to work from. I wanted to forge
ahead with my code & design for the Basic Stamp microcontroller that
I will be using to create my B4 realtime drawbar/switch MIDI
controller.
From the picture, this appears straightforward on the Swell set of
drawbars of which there are 9 in the standard colors for the standard
voicings:
Brown - 16'
Brown - 5-1/3'
White - 8'
White - 4'
Black - 2-2/3'
White - 2'
Black - 1-3/5'
Black - 1-1/3'
White - 1'
There is a single drawbar in the middle, I assume for Pedal 16'.
Now here's the quandary:
What would appear to be the Great set of drawbars has 8??, which if I
follow the "standard" drawbar color code should be:
White - 8'
White - 4'
Black - 2-2/3'
White - 2'
Black - 1-3/5'
Black - 1-1/3'
White - 1'
Brown or Black - ?? (what is this one for?? - voicing above 1', extra
pedal drawbar or something else??)
This 8th drawbar is definitely in the left most group and clearly
distinct from the lone drawbar in the middle.
I think that the color code should be retained across the Great and
Swell set of drawbars and that appears to be the intent from each
Hammond I've seen so far but I'm not familiar with the M3.
It would appear that the 16' and 5-1/3' voicings are missing from the
Great manual and drawbars for this organ, but I've never known a
Hammond or any other "drawbar" organ to have a voicing higher
(shorter) than 1'.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Kevin
