I 'second' the Echo (Audio) Indigo soundcard. I put an Echo Indigo
plug-in PCMCIA card in one of the two card slots on my 4-yr-old
Pentium III Gateway laptop some weeks ago. It sticks out about an
inch with a small volume wheel and two stereo earphone outputs.
Sound quality is excellent; Microsoft wavetable GM/GS software synth
with Roland sound samples. The card comes with a setup CD-ROM that's
loaded first. Then turn off the laptop, plug in the Echo Indigo,
restart and it almost 'configures itself' as default sound source. I
recall changing a couple of selections in Control Panel-Multimedia.
