Subject:VR 760....still rethinking

Still have some reservations about the VR 760.
Reading last night's post, I realized by the end that
my spelling got bad, my syntax was a little iffy (and
I was retyping things before I finished last nite) and
even my judgement was a little off. I was waaaay
tired.

I want to like this thing; not to replace my Electro
but to give me another gigging option, like small
parties where there isn't room, these overseas airline
restrictions where weight and size are crucial, and
rehearsals. And the thought of having it all in one
keyboard with no midi or external stuff, is quite
alluring. Like I said, I WANT to like this thing.

I stand by what I said, but while investigating a
couple other options (I'm still thinking an SL880pro
with an Electro rack and Motif module may be the way
to go) I am going to put more time into the Vr. I'm
hoping that adjusting some mic placements in the
modeling will help, and that layering the piano will
help, although layering the piano won't do any good
where I have organ splits happening (which happens the
majority of the time). But I'm willing to try.

To amend last nights post, I don't mean to insinuate
that ease of use is more important to anyone than tone
(cuz I know it's not); we all have parameters we need
to work with, and with most gigging situations, I'd
rather move some gear and enjoy the gig than take it
easy and not be as happy. But some situations don't
allow for that, and for a lot of us, those situations
are the norm and not the exceptions. I totally
understand this. But in my fatigue (a pseudo dream
state where running thoughts were crossing paths...I
had actually started typing something about the feel
of the banana versus the velocity....I told you I was
tired!) I may have come across a little harsh or
unclear.

Anyway, I'm picking your brains about the SL880pro, or
any other lightweight (43lbs or less) weighted
controllers or keyboards with piano sounds.
The other thing I"m looking at is a Yamaha P120
(40lbs) that seems to have gotten good reviews online.

Anyone have experience with that? Same issues still
apply: good piano feeling keyboard, decent to good
piano sounds, weight and size. 76 keys would be ok.

Thanks for the VR tips everyone...and Eric, I know
you've had another week to use yours: any tips you'd
care to share concerning my gripes?
