Dave, I've been trying out a VR-760 (now called V-Combo) for the past week
and just picked up the SRX07 board yesterday. I spent a couple of hours
auditioning sounds and programming some patches for my weekend gigs.

I don't know if you had an older OS or what, but I'm finding that the SRX
sounds most definitely are routable through the onboard VR FX unit (the
multi-FX assigned to the Synth section plus the onboard reverb). There is
no diminished functionality in this regard. It sounds like you wanted to
route these sounds through the organ and piano FX?

The way I understand the functionality is this: There are 3 separate
"modules" to the VR: An organ section, a piano section and a synth section.
Each has its own dedicated FX section that caters to the individual needs of
the soundsets. All 3 "modules" pass through the onboard reverb, with
adjustable send levels for each (e.g. I can layer an organ sound with zero
reverb on top of a piano with tons of reverb on top of a synth pad with 50%
reverb). For FX, the organ side has Rotary and Amp modeling. The piano
section has chorus, flanger, phaser and tremolo. The synth section has 40
multi-FX, that appear to be the exact same algorithms as found on my RD600
(e.g. phaser, rotary, couple of different chorus and delays, overdrive,
distortion, numerous combinations).

With the separate FX for each "module," Roland give the user the ability to
set up totally different FX settings in a split or layer.

I find that the SRX sounds can do most anything I want with the 40 onboard
FX algorithms. They are totally editable. If a piano is washed in reverb,
simply decrease the reverb send. If you want delay, add it! The features
available to the synth engine portion are actually pretty robust (though not
as much as a true XV synth engine). I'm finding what I need to adjust
accordingly.

Does this contradict what you thought about the VR760?

I beg to differ on a few of the specs you mentioned on the

board for about 1 month and it didn't work for me overall - but
personal tastes aside, I have a question:

Are you sure about this? Unless they have changed the specs
on the keyboard, expansion board sounds are routed into the
synth section and ONLY have the features and parameters
available to the synth section available to those sounds, which
means very little. Pitch bend -yes, synth knobs - yes, but not
effects.

When I owned mine, I absolutely could NOT use any of the
effects in the piano or organ section with the expansion sounds.
In fact, I couldn't even turn off the reverb on the SRX piano
sounds - and some of the patches were completely washed
with reverb.
Am major reason why I returned it.
I went through the manual front to back and went through every
parameter in the keyboard many times, and this was definitely
the case with the VR-760 I owned. In fact, why the synth section
doesn't have access to the parameters in the piano section is a
bit baffling.
Your thoughts???
