Hey! been there, got the T shirt. I left the 'pro' long time ago. Now I just play what I want and it has to be fun - I like music that makes your feet twitch and luckily there a good market for it in UK.

How far do you expect to travel for gigs. Most of mine are within two hours drive (its about 2 hours to get into London and there's so many gigs in London!).
