For use as monitors, you must activate the HP Filter and not use the
loudness curve. I've never had mine go thermal either as mains (w and w/out
subs) or as monitors.

BTW ~ I am in the pro audio bz and in the circles I travel Mackie does not
have a bad rep, nor is known for high failure rates. Within the past year
I've seen many more Crowns -- mostly CT and K series -- fail, even in low
stress applications. With all the Mackie gear I own, the only repair has
been ribbon cables replaced in my 1642 mixer.
