Thomas,
Just got my 8M back. Been getting re-acquainted with it. Soundside sounds
interesting from your description. How exactly did you download the upgrade into
your 8M? Please be as detailed as you wish as I'm not too versed at this.
Everything come out ok? Also does your D-Beam light button change change colors if
you don't activate it for a while and leave it set? This is the reason I sent
mine in to the factory as the service guy at Roland said it wasn't supposed
to do this. Well, it's still doing it after being at Roland's for a while but
nothing bad happens with the sound.

<< Hi,

( For those to whom it may be of interest ) I've just downloaded the

up-grade from Soundside into my VK8-M.

Here are details of the new presets.

Soundside VK8 Upgrade Set (www.soundside.de) (c) 2003

--------------------------------------------------------

Bank 4: (new features)

-----------------------

4-1 Rotary Bypass off (normal setting to compare with the next

one)

4-2 Rotary Bypass on (No rotary used)

4-3 Vibrato Chorus C3 - Vintage Setting '50

4-4 Vibrato Chorus C3 - Vintage Setting '60

4-5 Vibrato Chorus C3 - Vintage Setting '70

4-6 Vibrato Chorus C3 - Vintage Setting '50 & Rotary Bypass on

(you can modify and store these patches - the new features will be

stored too)

Bank 5: (Soft patches)

----------------------

5-1 Loud & Clean

5-2 Chorus

5-3 Vintage I

5-4 Vintage II

5-5 Soft Bee

5-6 Child In time

Bank 6: (Overdrive patches)

----------------------

6-1 Soft Over

6-2 Rock Lead

6-3 Rock Dist

6-4 Overdrive

6-5 Marshall I Break

6-6 Marshal II Break

Patches 6-5 and 6-6 use no rotary (brake mode) - you can use the

rotary if you like.

Banks 1 through 3 are not changed during the download.

As all the original presets are doubled up 1-3 = 4-6, there would

seem to be no danger in doing this up-grade. In any case re-

intiallization is an option on the Roland clone.

Reading the midi specs from the VK8-M manual I noticed that true by-

pass is an option for this clone through sysex, so I don't know

whether there really are 'new features', like better Leslie sim than

the factory setting, that couldn't be achieved during normal

editing/tweaking using the on-board facilities. Vintage chorus C3

50/60/70 does seem to be a new feature though.

Thomas.
