You are probably not going to be blown away by the difference in the
soundfield between the JBL and the Barbetta. I do think that the barbetta
is possibly a little bit wider, but not enough to make a difference. I
would more suggest that you might want to think about adding another monitor
so that you can hear yourself a little bit better, but obviously that is
more expense.
My "day gig" amplification setup is a Barbetta SE41 on top of a
MSpro3tm/lowpro, but my "personal" stuff is a Barbetta 41C with a HK
Rotosphere handling the leslie stuff. I played a gig this weekend with my
rotosphere and Barbetta and sitting next to that sure was different than the
motion sound stuff that has a complete "soundfield." I felt like I
couldn't hear myself all night, although I had the stuff cranking.
My suggestion would be to pick up a EonG2 10" to use as a personal
stage monitor pointed towards yourself and then use the big one to send out
to the audience, they are relatively inexpensive and you can pick up one of
those cool little bags to carry them around in and are ideal to take to a
small gig or rehearsal. The only draw back is that the zippers are pretty
lame on the bags. I use one for small solo piano gigs, where I am playing
in a small room for a short period of time.

I read a review that mentioned that the Barbetta 41c has a good
"soundfield,"
that is, you can hear it nicely even if you are not directly in front of it
but are on the stage. Can you actually hear it if you are off to the side
of
it, yet on the stage rather close to it? Can anyone verify this?

I wonder because my EONG2 setup is too directional. If you are not directly

in front of the speaker, you don't hear it, and if you are directly in front

of it, you get blasted into mush. The EONG2 is impeccable if you are out in

the audience, but onstage it seems like it is either nothing or too much,
depending on where you are relative to the speaker. (At least that is my
experience--if anyone can help me understand a better way to set it up, I'm
all ears.)
