Subject:RT: problem with Mackie SRM-450
I know a lot of people use Mackie srm-450s here, and I'm hoping somebody
can.suggest a way to approach my problem. I have a pair of 450s and in
general I love 'em. They're about a year old, and they definitely are
showing physical wear from bumping around in the van and falling off the
dolly a couple of times (great form factor for laying on the floor next
to me, but terrible form factor for riding on a dolly). Anyway, they've
seen some use.
Early in its life one of them seemed to have distortion that the other
didn't have, but it was there like "clearing its throat" when I would
start playing -- it was gone after the first chord or so. Now that one
is distorted all the time. The distortion is high frequency "sshh"
sizzle, layed on top of other wise good reproduction. It's most
noticeable on a fairly pumping piano part (think Saturday in the Park).
I don't think I've ever driven them hard enough to blow tweeters, plus I
thought they had a limiter built in for that purpose. So I suspect an
electronic problem, or a bad connection.
Has anybody had one of these repaired? I'll call the local dealer I
bought 'em from, but experience says that since this isn't an outright
failure, there is a risk of getting it back not fixed (or with the wrong
thing fixed).
Ideaas appreciated,
John
PS can anybody recommend a road cover for these? LeCover makes one; has
anybody tried it?
