I don't know, Tony. On most of my favorite Chester
Thompson stuff he's sticking mostly to a couple
settings during his solos and perhaps changing
registrations a bit during comping. (For example,
"Squib Cakes"). He only seems to do any changing at
certain points of the solo (the peaks and such), very
similar to a jazz player who hits the preset for
888888888 at the end of the solo.
What I was referring to was the players who are
constantly fiddling with the drawbars during their
solos. I am making a distinction between that and
folks who set the bars on the presets and change them
that way.
