I agree. Your system will work. You need a lower latency sound card
or lower latency drivers. There are free SoundBlaster lower latency
drivers at:

B4 is on my future wish list; already playing hardware clones and
spent this years (and next's?) equipment budget. I did get a group
recommended laptop PCMCIA card, an Echo Indigo from Echo Audio;
they're online. Indigo is a top quality soundcard; Microsoft
wavetable synth with Roland samples. You'll get responses from
