Emne: [CWSG] B4 organ
I've just downloaded the demo of the N.I. B4 software and I think it's
fantastic and it has the sound that I want. I've made approaches to a
dealer to get it but at the moment I'm hesitating because of a couple of
matters which I can't resolve.
I want to play it live and although I'm quite used to a bit of delay in
pipe organs, I don't know if I can live with the latency effect that
I've had so far. I've been able to get the latency time down on what it
was at first by quitting everything that was not needed on the computer.
I've defragmented the hard drive also. I know there will always be SOME
latency, that's fine, but I was wondering how to minimise it down to
some sort of practical degree for live playing.
I'm using a Pentium III computer which runs at 950mhz. It has 390K of
ram, 20 Gig hard drive and a SoundBlaster Live card and I'm running
Win98 2E. Is this whole system adequate to run the B4 or would you
suggest I change something? Would I be better with a 'dedicated'
computer, if so, what general type of specification would you suggest?
I'm also not sure how I would control the B4 software either. Ideally,
I would like to play it from my Yamaha EL90 organ which has midi but I
don't know how I would control the B4 from it. From what I read, it
seems as if any of the B4's effects can be assigned to a preset
including tremolo / vibrato / percussion etc so I 'could' survive on
presets if I had to and not use the drawbars 'live'.
If I were to just set up the presets on the B4 to whatever I want, does
anyone know if the presets of the B4 can be assigned to the preset
buttons on the EL90? The EL90's 16 presets do correspond to patch
changes.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
John
Hi John
Your computersystem is adequate, but yor soundboard is not!! By
something with ASIO-drivers.
