Subject:Re: green onions (Scales)
Here is another way to think of this if, like me, most of your theory
revolves around blues scales (I am self-taught).
In the key of C the blues scale is:
C Eb F (F#) G Bb (B) C
For a jazzier sound, use the blues scale of the 6th interval (A in this
case)
A C D (Eb) E G (Ab) A
You just have to rework your licks to emphasize the C and G more than the A
tones. I actually picked this up from listening to Duane Allman, and have
since confirmed it with blues guitar players (who have often said something
like - 'Yeah, you just go down 3 frets'). It is basically a minor
pentatonic scale, but since my theory is rooted in blues scales it is easier
for me to think of it this way.
Hope this is helpful.

Marc,
Can you explain this scale. Any other licks or scales you can share for
blues and rock? Thanks for the help.
joe
3 the minor 6 arpeggio ( in C ) C Eb G A C
Try this pattern over any chord in a C blues
A G Eb C Eb C A Eb C
Most Importantly as Kevin said learn the specific Licks
that use this material
