Subject:Re: RSI (OT)
Hi Carl,
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. It would drive me mad not to be
able to play for an extended period. I read the link which was an
interesting article.
I have wondered from time to time why I am able to play for extended
periods without aching fingers and why some typists seem to suffer
from RSI.
I noticed that they often have a habit of dropping the wrist and some
computer accessories even have wrist rests.
I was taught to pretend that I was holding an orange when playing to
get the correct position, but being a bit lazy I only manage a slight
curve of the fingers, but I did at least hold my hands in a straight
line with my arms. Having read the article it appears that I was
lucky to have been lazy because curved fingers, curved beyond the
natural curve, can just as easily lead to injury as can using
straight fingers with a dropped wrist.
A very useful link, and not at all OT, as a forceable restriction on
playing time would hardly go down well with most members on this CWSG
list.
Regards, Thomas.
