If you have access to both I suggest a/b-ing them. In this forum there are
divided sanctions regarding both which leaves one with the task of researching
for him/her self to see which keyboard speaks for you. After you wade through
the opinions it will come down to your ears and touch. I also play rock, have a
real B3/122, and a BC/222 and like the rest in here fantasize with finding
the Holy Grail of Clones. I've tried the new CX-3, used to own the first
generation of CX years ago to save on hauling the B3, but have recently posted on the
VK8 and how to my ears and fingers seems to be closer to a B3. The addition
of a Speakeasy preamp which is a tube unit designed to put oomff in any clone
and a big favorite to CX users, although I have not heard it personally and am
trying to get my hands on one, is the "Excalibur" according to many in this
forum. Preamping is a good way to go and pro studios spend oodles on vintage
micpres to get that extra gain before going to record. But as with everything a
clone is a clone and only the real thing is the real thing. But who knows....
A B3 is a clone of a pipe organ and see how far that got.
I've heard the Crumar is a nice organ and has been around longer than the CX
or the VK, but have never had the chance to touch one.
