My problem with monitors/amps on stage is that the rest of the band
hears almost nothing if I don't use an onstage monitor. They refuse
to turn the volume of the keys up in their monitors. Real smart. I
was even asked why I wasn't playing certain parts to which I
replied-turn the organ up in your monitor and you'd hear the thing
Einstein. Personally, I think everyone should use IEMs but that's
another argument. The 450 is good for me right now. I'm surprised
at how good the low end actually sounds. That too is subjective. It
falls into that category of not having to man-handle a Leslie around
everywhere I go. Darn sure not as good sounding as a Leslie but not
too bad.
For me I'd be quite happy to not carry any onstage monitoring system.
I'd just carry a keyboard and my IEMs. End of story.
A lot of interntional touring groups actually carry B's and Leslie's
but the Leslie usually gets sent to the wings and miked.
I've had the opportunity to tour with my B and have the Leslie
offstage and miked. A good sound person will make that thing sing.
I really don't mind not having it onstage in that case. Especially
when they ask you how manY monitors you want. Stereo? Two cabs?
you got it! Now that's the way to run a show.
Back to the discussion-it becomes a matter of being able to control
all of the variables that you are using. Getting the right set on
the mixer. The right texture on the B4 and so on. The right volume
on the sound card, 450 and mixer.
Too much technology!
