I used to use that card with my JV1080 when I lived in Dallas and was
playing with Fishart and Daddy-o. I used a Roland A90 as a controller
and a Motion Sound Pro 3T. The card does do a lot, but it is definitely
old tech as far as sampling goes.

You may be better off with the newer generation of XV cards and synths.
Although the new XV keyboards card has a LOT of the sounds from the card
that Chuck is talking about. Unfortunately, my JV1080 with three exp
cards was stolen about 6 months ago, so I went with the XV5050.

Last night I bought a Roland JV80-08 card for my JV1010 last night
and this thing smokes. This card is called Sounds of the 60's and
70's. Bill Champlin uses one. The guy at GC said he had a recording
of a demo using this card and it was impossible to tell it wasn't a
real Hammond.
Keep in mind that the sounds on this card are digital samples of the
real thing and there may be some minor tweaking one could do to the
sounds. Also, I believe the effects are part of the sample so you
may not be able to tweak Leslie speed and stereo placement etc.
I say this because I haven't tried to edit any sounds in the JV1010.
And you need a 1010 or 2080 to utilize the card.
With all this said-
There are about 255 sounds on this thing and many of the organs are
very good (my subjective opinion).
I ran through all of them with headphones then ran them through my
studio board into my Event 20/20's. The headphones sounded better to
me.
There are straight Hammond sounds, Hammond sounds with chorus, slow
Leslie speeds and chorus and so on. Real nasty distorted organ stuff
as well. There are also some cheesy Farfisa and Vox sounds.
After that there are a pile of electric piano sounds. A couple of
the Rhodes patches actual give you the sense of playing a real Rhodes
by the way the patch sounds. I know it sounds weird but it works.
After all of the Rhodes and Wurly patches comes a bunch of Tron type
string sounds. Those three sounds make up the majority of the
patches on this card.
I was quite impressed for a 220.00 card in a littld sample box that
weighs less than a pound. I had some some store credit and finagled
a deal so I didn't pay anywhere near 220.00 for it. It retails at
249.00.
For me, I carry the JV1010 to use with my BX3/B4. I'll definitely
use some of these patches for specific sounds that I'd normally have
to dial in on the B4 or hunt for a sound alike patch.
Here's the bottom line-
If you have a 1010 or 2080 and if you need something you can throw in
a bag and hit the road, you can't go wrong with this card. It sounds
very good and would certainly save a lot of cord maneuvering and gear
lugging for a small travel gig.
BTW, I wasn't able to get any fast/slow switching out of the thing by
using the mod wheel. You can get a wobbly vibrato sound but nothing
that is near passable as a Leslie vibrato. To me that's the single
drawback.
If you need something that's cheap and can travel in a small bag,
this is the deal.
I'm happy as a pig in s**t with this little guy. And in Texas,
THAT'S happy!
