Subject:Weber MASS w/organ

Today I had time to play around with using a Weber MASS speaker
simulator/loadbox on my A-102. All I can say is WOW. I was able
to nail the sound I've heard on many groove/jazz albums at any volume
I wanted (even extremely low volume) and I wasn't even using my dual
rotor leslie.

w/weber. In a nutshell, the mass is a speaker magnet assembly that
is used as an amp load on tube amps but produces no-acoustic noise
(has no basket).

Setup:
A-102 set for a crunchy tone. AO-39 poweramp output goes into the
mass speaker load input. The mass speaker output goes to a
crossover. High goes to my skb leslie (8ohm selenium phenolic
driver). Low goes back to a single 12" speaker in the A-102. A-
102 reverb rewired to hit the attenuated output (pre-crossover).

Now for the exciting part... DI from the mass goes to another 1x12
in a ported cab (I used a eminence beta-coaxial which has a whizzer
cone) driven by another amp. For testing I used the head from a
discarded crate combo, it actually sounded fine at living room
levels. That DI has a 3band tonestack on it which allowed me to use
it for bass reinforcement (low control maxed) and then I mixed in
just a touch of mids and trebles to fill out the sound and add some
clarity to the rotating speaker. The result was huge! Really
punchy bass and clear keyclick.

The DI has its own level control. The speaker out has a level
control, and there is the 3 band so its possible to quickly alter the
leslie and EQ. There was no best sound, just lots of good settings.

I encourage everyone to think about uses for this piece of gear in
their studios and rigs. I'm going to order a 2nd 50W model w/8 and
16 ohm settings to mount on my leslie so I can have a level control
independant of the leslie volume (which I prefer at 3:00) and get the
DI out for FX and additional sound sculping with my fixed keyboard
amp onstage.
