Subject:Boutique Vibrato/Chorus box
Don't hate me, but 3 weeks ago, after 2yrs of compulsive websurfing,
I tracked down a hammond at a price I couldn't say no to. A102 in
near perfect condition, 1hr outside of Boston. I paid $900.
Among other things, the real thing showed me how uninspiring the
vibrato/chorus on my V5 is which led me to think about whether a box
could be designed inspired by the design principles of the speakeasy
preamp but for vibrato.
That is, take the B3 linebox design and implement all the stages of
the vibrato scanner, but then use a digitally controlled analog mux
(could still be capacitively coupled like a real hammond scanner)
instead of a physical scanner. Has anyone ever tried this? It
should work in principle and would be a fun project to try but until
I can figure out those inductor values (waiting on a service manual)
I can't do any testing or simulation.
I know I would pay for a box that is to the mechanical vibrato
scanner as the speakeasy is to the tube preamp.
