Subject:Re: In Ear Monitors

Hey Chuck...

The places we're playing usually have 3 mixes. My
drummer tries to use his in-ears, but seeing as he
doesn't have a wireless, he has less opportunity to
use them as the snake almost NEVER has a channel left
to be used for this purpose.

I'm either missing something, or I just dont
understand. If they dont have a channel in the snake
to send me my own mix, how do I get the signal from
them to me? That was the whole point of the wireless:
most clubs DONT have an extra channel in the snake to
donate (even with the types of clubs we play with 3
and 4 monitor mixes), but this way, no matter what I
should be able to get a mix. So I have my transmitter
at the console. I would need a preamp before the
transmitter...this is already too much stuff.
Frankly, if I'm spending this kind of money, I expect
it to be close to right. The first night's
experience, which was wonderful, is what I expect on a
consistent basis. The mix I was getting from the
clubs was fine, but the overall volume was lacking. I
can't insert a pre between my receiver and my
earpieces.

I'm totally lost as to what you're referring to here.
Currently, I use one keyboard (Motif8), and my
Electro/Leslie combo. And again, it's not the mix I'm
complaining about, as the mixes have sounded
fine...they're just not loud enough, even though
initially, that first show, it was great!

We're lucky enough to be playing some great rooms that
actually do have excellent production. That's what's
so confusing...even the engineers are worried that I'm
in danger of blowing my head off when they look at
what they're sending me, until I assure them that
indeed, I'm not deaf, and I'm not getting that much
power.

I agree...and the first night's show, I had the
transmitter at half volume, and the receiver at not
much more than that.

If I'm just having trouble understanding what you're
saying to me, contact me offline and I'll pick your
brain via the phone. Thanks Chuck!
