Subject:RE: NEW THREAD: STEREO OUPUT INTO A MONO AMP
I've experimented with this quite a bit and came to the conclusion that
running the L&R outputs of any keyboard into two separate channels of any
single/mono amp sounds better than the "summed mono" output on the keyboard.
The difference is not huge, but to me there is one. I've had others tell me
I'm crazy and that it's all the same thing; maybe I'm entirely wrong and it
is, but I've managed to convince myself otherwise. But at least when I run
both L&R sides I know for sure that the keyboard's full signal is reaching
the amp/mixer.
I run all my keyboards in stereo to a 12 ch. rack mixer with the main outs
going to the P.A. mains and the L&R monitor outs going to two separate
channels on the 3 ch. mixer in my JBL EON15 G2 (stage monitor). I've also
tried running the keyboard's 'L/Mono' output to just one channel in the JBL
and I could definitely hear a difference between the two setups. As it is,
I've got plenty of open channels in my rig so running the extra cables is
not a big deal. In a worst case scenario, if one of the L or R cables
decides to go south during a performance, at least I wouldn't lose my entire
signal before I could address it. YMMV.
