Subject:Re: Pro145/leslie maintenance

Hey David!

I'll address the leslie maintenance issue. I have 3
leslies, one of which stays in the truck all the time
and is gigged constantly. Another stays in my home
studio and is used not nearly as much. A third is in
a recording studio with one of my Hammonds and gets
used somewhere in the middle.

Once a year I take them to my Hammond tech. I just
have him scope out each amplifier make sure everything
is working correctly, check rotor alignments and belt
wear. I have him test the tubes, and finally, do any
necessary oiling. Since I go to him, I avoid the cost
of a service call, and he charges me one hour's labor.

Now, if something goes wrong, then I bring it in for a
service call, but that is so rare it's a non-issue.
He's shocked I haven't toasted a driver yet, and I've
been using the same gigging leslie for almost 5 years,
and at nutty volumes.

They're meant to be played: think of them as the aural
Hummer. (woah...now there's a play on words!!!!)
