Bill - Your post kind of opens the door for me. I have a Hammond XK2
and haven't played out in years. I decided to audition for a pretty
high level blues band in my area and began a search to improve my
tone, which led me here. To make a very long story short, I run the
XK2 into a Korg G4 into a dbx EQ into a Speakeasy into a Barbetta 41.
I passed the audition and the band was extremely impressed with my
tone. Many thanks to this board for steering me in the right
directions. My turn to give back. Here are my observations. The
Korg G4 is better than the XK2 Leslies, but overdrives easily. The
Speakeasy, however likes alot of volume and sounds best with the bass
up and the treble about 1 o'clock. However that is too much bass for
the Barbetta. So I use the dbx EQ to tame the bass and also give me
the exact tone I want.

The Speakeasy is freaking amazing. Steve is a genius and was
excellent to deal with. The Speakeasy alone makes such a difference
in tone - making it warmer and more airy. The Barbetta 41 with the
2 - 10's has amazing volume, clarity, and tone. I spent alot of time
comparing and feel that the 15" + horn Barbettas are a different
animal - less power and less tone. The 41 compared to the Mackie 450
is alittle more transparent, but the 450 is equally awesome for
keyboards (I don't like Mackies for vocals). The EQ is a must with
all these other things going on and allows me to boost the volume
back out of the Korg G4 and into the Speakeasy. I have several
12au7's and found that the NOS JAN (military version) had the best
tone, but the EH that came with it was pretty close.
