I've seen it and I believe it. I'm not aware of any written "promise," but
actions speak louder than words and Clavia has been saying it, doing it and
proving it since the Electro was first introduced. If Clavia stopped
"evolving" the Electro today, I would not lose any sleep. Of any instrument
I've owned over the past 20 years, it has had the most evolution, free
support and attention to users that I have seen. Sure, some current synths
have some widespread evolution capabilities, but the same is not true for
other instruments in the Electro's category. I would not expect it to still
be evolving a decade from now, but the fact that they are giving us a few
years worth of new functions and sounds -- easily, via USB -- goes miles in
my book.

As for the "keyboard that'll continually evolve," with software upgrades,
downloadable sounds via USB, serious product support...that's a good
thing!
Not many keyboard manufacturers support their products in this fashion and
so I would not let that concern you. "Evolving" is much better than
"stagnating."

"[C]ontinually evolve..."?? I'll believe it when I see it. No, I don't
know too much about Nord as a company right this moment. But I do know that
the industry is replete with synthesizers that will "evolve with you" and
other such promises. Hardly a synth was made during the 80's and early 90's
without this promise. Seen a lot of (Peavey) DPM-V3's being used?
Ensoniqs? And how about E-mu? EVERY unit they ever made came with a
similar promise and most of them are now no longer supported.
Now before anyone starts a lecture in modern marketplace realities, the
point is the promise (claim) was made. Has Nord made such a promise? They
DID have some problems just like this a couple years ago on one of their
buggy versions (Lead2?) that users had to wait over 18months for remedy.
But that's just from listening in on the 'digitalhell' list. So someone
here might have way more accurate input.
After some years at this, the very last thing I count on is a product to
"evolve". The industry track record is that of replacement and obsolecense;
manufacturers' claims notwithstanding. If the Electro continues to improve
then.... Yippee! If not, don't be surprised.
