Always keep in mind that no matter what you are using as a
computer-laptop or PC-there are computer functions that are running
all the time unless you know how to disable them or wipe your drive
and do a partial install.
First off, I use a Vaio laptop and have 2000ProNT running on it. I
do not use a screen saver or any other unecessary processes.
On my studio PC I had the builder do a partial install. No clocks,
no polling functions, no screen savers nothing. Just the bare
essential needed to run my sequencing and recording software.
This way you won't have any issues with processor power or having too
many things running at once. This can definitely cause problems and
slow down the processor.
The only issues I've ever had with my laptop computer in a venue is
their power problems. Although I use a battery back-up I sometimes
find that I've come to the gig and the computer has gone off. Never
had a problem while actually playing.
