Subject:cx-3 rotary control

I must be missing something, but I've tried to use a foot switch to control the
rotary on my cx-3 using the assignable input with puzzling results. The switch
must be clicked twice to change the rotary from slow to fast, and vice versa.
I'm using a roland switch, so could that be the problem? Any suggestions?
