Subject:Re: VK-7 questions/problems

I suspect that the problem with the VK-7 crashing is unrelated to the
OS. I had a VK-7 in my shop that crashed all the time. I
successfully repaired the unit. The trouble was caused by solder
joints on the PC board on the filter caps in the power supply which
had broken loose due to vibration (or abuse). I resoldered those and
then added some hot glue on the component side of the PC board.

The problem with the distortion knob could probably be cured with a
little contact cleaner.

I hope these tips are helpful.
Please only attempt this stuff if you have the skills.

distortion level increase to what ever level the distortion knob
happened to be set at at the time. Very annoying. Has not happened
enough for me to look into it.

> I got a VK-7 not long after they first came out, and I loved the
way it sounded. After a couple of years, it began to crash and act
strange a lot. Roland finally sent my music dealer a set of new
circuit boards for it, and the crashing and problems stopped! But,
the OS (1.10) that came with the new boards had a screwed up version
of the Leslie effect that, to my ears, sounded very synthetic and
artificial (only when it changed from fast to slow - but, it turns
out that happens a lot during the average organ song). The people at
Roland said that this was the new improved Leslie effect, but to my
ears it was pretty horrible. Anyways, the guy at the store I got it
from suggested I put the old OS (1.05) back in and with all the new
boards, it might sound the way I liked it, and not crash. I did
that, and it did sound great again, but it started acting weird after
a while and eventually crashed completely and wouldn't even start up
again. It is now in the shop again. Has anyone had any problems
anything like this? Has anyone else noticed the change in the Leslie
effect or crashing with the old OS?
