Subject:standtastic specifics

Their literature is terrible at describing how the product works. Even the
setup instruction sheet is very hard to see/understand.

There are two fixed parameters - the distance between the 'A' frame members
(front & rear), and the height of those 'A' frame members. Everything else
is adjustable.

So the distance between the two 'A' supports is adjustable w/a scissors
style 'X' brace that adjusts very easily. I don't have the stand here with
me, but it's a good space for width. Once you've selected your width, each
tier slides using an allen wrench. The height is adjustable however you
like. You could, for example, tilt the left an inch lower than the right.
And you can move the two (or more) tiers right up against each other,
getting as close as you need.

The bracket angle is determined by using a pair of steel pins, about 1/4" in
diameter and quite sturdy. There are many nice touches on this stand and one
is that the pins are attached by a cloth tether that will hold up for years.
The holes you select for the pins determine the angle of the bracket. These
are dicated by the distance and number of holes, so it's not as flexible as
the height adjustment. However, the ease of setup/teardown and durability,
for me, far outweigh getting the exact angle. And it prevents the syndrome
of having to getting the angle EXACT - it's very obvious when they don't
match.

The bracket has a sliding arm that extends out from ~12" to maybe 20"?
Again, just guessing here. This is done with a thumbscrew, so it's as
adjustable as you need.

Once you've determined the height and bracket width and adjusted those, you
simply pop in/out the pins for the brackets and you're done.

The carrying case is very nicely thought out, includes an allen wrench
pocket for adjustments and a well balanced handle and shoulder strap. Weight
is 22 lbs with two tiers, and you can decide to use just one (I did last
night) or two tiers without making any changes to the setup.

There is a taller model that uses three tiers. I wanted the more compact
version, the case is about 49.5" long, just fits across in my trunk.

The main problem w/the stand is the room in front for the 'A' frame - sorta
like the old USS 'A' problem, but the keyboards are pushed out (or in
back/front of) the 'A' frame. I will probably keep my X stand in the trunk
for tighter spaces.

It also makes a nice coat rack, as we found out last night.
