Subject:RE: barbetta 3105 A's... anyone have any info??

My first Barbetta was a 3105c and I had to have it fixed twice before I
finally sold it here locally. I know that sounds bad for it, but actually
it is a great sounding powered speaker and was the best available at the
time I bought it (pre EON and SRM450). The problem I had with it was I kept
trying to gig with it and it just didn't travel well; they should pretty
much live at home. Having it fixed was no problem because I just sent the
amp section back to Tony Barbetta and he fixed it for very little money;
furthermore, the guy I sold it to has never had any trouble with it, but
it's never left his basement either. Since then, I've owned two more
Barbetta's and I've never had any trouble with them, but they stay at home
also and I let my JBL EON G2's take all the road abuse, which they do quite
admirably. IMHO, and we've all argued about this before, but I still think
the Barbetta 41C is the best sounding Powered/Active Speaker available
today. But unless you're willing to gingerly carry it from gig to gig in
your car's padded back seat, you're better off with a JBL or Mackie. My 41C
has it's own custom Anvil case and it still doesn't leave my house.
I believe the pair of 3105's on eBay were in a church and that explains
their pristine condition; at $500 that was a steal for such a great sounding
pair of speakers, but I hope the new owner doesn't plan on using them on the
road because the 3105 just had a lot of dependability problems. The single
3105 that's on eBay now I have my doubts about; it's obviously seen some
road use. Tony Barbetta told me that his designs after the 3105 addressed
a lot of the early problems and they seem to be considerably more dependable
now. If you can find a 3105 in very good to mint condition it would be a
great amp for anyone who wants to use it for a home studio/practice amp.
