Ed,
That's a very interesting take on things and I think
is quite insightful. There are a ton of Strat copies
out there and I am sure that many of them are fine
guitars and, in fact, in some cases better than some
lower-end Strats. But the "player" wants the real
Fender Strat.
In my case, however, I have always gone for what
sounds the best, clone-wise. I don't care what it says
on it (or, in my current configuration, what brand my
laptop is!) as long as it sounds like the real thing.
I think it has been well established that the one with
the genuine name is an also-ran when it comes to the
sound.
