I'm a bit of a gear fanatic so excuse me if I ramble on...
I've had numerous positive comments on my horn sounds and I use a similar
setup as someone earlier stated. I use a Roland U220 for the main Sax,
Trumpet, Trombone, and sometimes an octave higher or lower Sax sound. This
is layered with a Sax sound from my trusty Korg M1r and possibly a fat
analog horn sound from my Roland D-550 to round it out. I think if you stack
several modules together and try some slight detuning it sounds killer. I
used this setup to cover the horns live in Peter Gabriels Sledgehammer as
well as Chicago's 25 or 6 to 4. I've actually had several fellow players ask
if I had a sampler playing them back. A sampler is an option but I think a
synth setup is easier to deal with.
