I still use my trusty, rusty, old Roland D-70 as my upper MIDI controller.
Around 1992, I installed a Roland saxophone sample card (SN-U110-12) that
plugs in the back. I love the tenor sax on that card. Certain notes
squeak, others warble, the whole thing sounds fairly convincing when you use
the pitch lever, volume pedal, and modulation in the right places.

I think the saxes on my XP-80 are probably better sampled and more
realistic, but the old D-70 is just quirky enough to emulate the real deal
in live shows. I've played around with EMU and others, but I keep going
back . . .
