Subject:Re: Can you tell the difference strike 3?
Useless since I've never heard a Clavia and my experience with B-3 is
from vinyl. Plus, my browser distorts somewhat with your samples, Ed.
Heard that (distortion) before and it seems related to the format
(Realpalyer) and not necessarily with the recording. But nonetheless,
since I seek advice I guess I'll also have to participate in this organ
(Pepsi) challenge. Would also love to hear an organ with and without
speakeasy, as so many have stated before. And in my specific case a
c(b)x-3. More on that in part 2 of this message.
1 and 3 B3
2 and 4 Clavia
Part 2 of the message
One sound I have been seeking but not been able to approach near enough
on my bx3 is the one we get sampled as soon as we get on Ed's page. I
believe a real B-3 (Eddie Jefferson "hommage").
Question: is there a particular preset (regular or EX) on the Korg which
gets somewhere in that ball league of sound? Are there other clones who
have more of an, let say, nearer acquaintance with such a type of sound
(blues? jazz? B-3 sound).
Caveats: Playing without any tube gear so far (hope to change that
situation eventually) through a Fender Bassman 25 at low appartment
volume. I have not tried the peamp settings on the Korg so far
(inaudible, seems lifeless). Maybe I should, most seem to say it is way
better than amp1 or 2. Reason: changed all the internal adjustments when
I first received the organ. Redid it again 2 months later when I
received the amp (boy did that little thing change the sound). But still
not there yet (a ballpark figure of the sound I'm looking for, not a
replica of the B-3 of course). Don't like those kinds of questions
because sound is such a subjective matter but does the Speakeasy bring
the c(b)x-3 closer to the sound we hear on Ed's page when we log on?
