You echo my sentiments. This is the same thing I say as well... always use newer gear that is made for more than casual home use. It seems obvious to me, but if you are trying to use some funky proprietary piece of hardware that won't cooperate with the OS (or with other hardware), either disable it or take it out. One piece of rogue gear can wreak havoc on the most stable of systems.
