Subject:Re: Viscount D9E - comments?

Hi Marcel,

My honest opinion- don't buy it but if you do don't spend more than
$80, 80 Euros or £60 or so.
A long time ago it was overtaken by the OB3^2, an infinitely better
product. There is an OB3^2 module for sale ( B stock ) at
www.turnkey.uk.com at £275.99. if you are in Europe. I expect they
would be open to offers on it (see below).

The Viscount D9E, also know as the Oberheim OB3 (and Fujiha D9E,
perhaps because it sounded more Japanese) is a single midi channel,
drawbar module.
It only has a virtual upper manual. It's voicing doesn't compare with
the later three channel OB3^2 ( also made by Viscount )

Viscount have since brought out a newer module and/or keyboard to
replace the OB so it should be possible to get hold of an OB fairly
cheaply at present. I have the newer Viscount, but in many ways, not
least the Leslie sim, I think the older OB3^2 is better.

The 'Leslie' on the old D9E is very poor.

Regards, Thomas.
