I had the same thought/question when I bought mine. I have not added a 3rd
tier, so I can't say for sure, but it seems feasible. The biggest problem
would be real estate when the stand is folded. There are workarounds for
this, including detaching them completely and leaving them loose in the bag.

I don't think stability would be an issue.
