Subject:Electro...the EPs...and velocity problems/broken keys
After having used my Electro for a few days to cover
my pianos and Epianos (my Motif hadn't arrived on our
plane) as well as my organ, I had kind of written off
the elec pianos. They sound nice, but not really all
that expressive. Besides, I bought the Electro
specifically for the organ. This was back in
November.
I'm not sure what made me wait so long to midi it up
to investigate some other things, but I had. Until
this morning. All I can say is......
WOW! Using my Motif8 to control the Electro, I was
STUNNED at how gorgeous some of those sounds were.
The Rhodes 2 especially benefited from the change.
The clavs really became no more expressive than they
are with the Nord keyboard, and the acoustic piano is
still dreadful. But the Rhodes and wurlis were
incredible. The Elec Grand definitely came up a notch
as well. Those of you who plan to use the Nord for
Eps as often as organs might want to consider the rack
or at least midi-ing to your weighted controller: it
will make a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE.
Now, this got me thinking. If everyone is banging on
their Nord a little harder to get more expression out
of their Eps, this may account for some broken keys or
bad sensors...or whatever the problem is. ???? And I
checked my Nord's own board, and no matter how
aggressively I played it on those Eps, the response
was NOTHING as dynamic as when I used the Motif. It
was a total shock.
Hey...if Nord decides to put out a 1-space rack
version of the Electro's pianos (or a half rack), you
could count me in.
I love my Electro, but while its keyboard is
phenomenal for the organs, it doesn't do the eps
justice. Check it out.
