Subject:Re: Differences between CX-3 and Electro keyboard actions
I'm probably not the MOST qualified to answer this,
but WTH...
I had a CX3 v1 (lipped) for about 2 weeks. It was
fast, clacky, but definitely influenced me to play a
bit differently than my XK2 (which I loved). It did
make you want to play a lot faster or...showboaty for
lack of a better term. But I really wanted a V2 with
the waterfalls, so I returned it.
I got a V2, which definitely had a different action
than the v1, cuz I wasn't flying all over the place
(which is fine, trust me!). But it felt good. I
still preferred my XK2's action though, hands down.
After 2 weeks of that, I returned it (dissatisfied
with the sound in all applications). I got an
Electro, 3 of them in fact due to quality
control/shipping issues. To be honest, I don't
remember disparities in those 3 keyboards as I did one
weekend apiece on them until I got the lucky 3rd
strike.
I can say hands down, this does not feel ANYTHING like
the Korg keyboard. The action seems a little firmer
than the XK2 (which had the most Hammond feel of all
the clones), and while I cannot play piano on this
keyboard, I think it's a marvelous keyboard for
organs. There is no side-to-side play on the keys
(the Korg DEFINITELY had that). It feels like a little
more effort is necessary (which feels wonderful to me)
and yet it's a very fast keyboard.
As for the manufacturing issues: I find it illogical
that Fatar would make a different "tinted" keyboard
for Clavia than Korg if they wouldn't manufacture a
different bed. And frankly, retooling costs aside,
when you get down to it the customer gets what they
want, if they're willing to pay for it. In this case,
Clavia is the customer, and it would seem that they
have managed to produce an instrument UNLIKE the CX or
VK or XK not only in appearance and sound, but
definitely in feel as well. And lets face it: the
Nord has different requirements of its keyboard
(really encouraging the use of "piano" playing) that
the others do not.
But the bottom line is: who cares? All this
controversy over the "grassy knoll" of the CX/Electro
keyboards? Are we kidding? I still want to know who
built the PYRAMIDS DAMMIT!!!!!
