Subject:Re: NEW MEMBER/ QUESTION FOR GROUP
Hi Thomas, My name is Bill Whittaker and last July I wrote to you to discuss a problem I was having being able to use the Multi-timbral function fo my Mirco B. The contents of our discussion is posted below. Well, it took some time but I was able to obtain a second hand Midi merger on ebay. The item I purchased was a J L cooper Nexus Plus. I followed the directions you gave below, but I am still having a problem getting this to work and would really appreciate your help. The Nexus allows for each out to switch between the info coming in at the A input, B input or a M which I believe stands for merged. I am able to switch the unit to A and the micro will play on one keyboard, switch the merger to B and it will play the Micro on the other keyboard, but when I put the unit to the M setting I get no response from either keyboard. I have tried changing midi transimit and midi recv channels but nothing happens, I am stuck and I am not sure if the merger is not wokring or if I do not somehting set up correctly. Any help with problem would be much appreciated. Thanks. Bill W.

Thomas again.
Seems that this is what you're doing. Keyboard 1 into Spin (in ) and
from Spin (thru ) into keyboard 2, from keyboard 2 (thru ) into
module.
This is what you need to do.
Midi cable from keyboard 1 into Spin (in), then from Spin (thru )
another cable into 2nd keyboard ( in) and then ( here is the magic
moment ) two cables out of keyboard 2, one cable from (out)
transmitting keyboard 2's midi transmissions on your chosen midi
channel, and one cable from (thru ) relaying it's incoming midi
signals ( on its separate midi channel ) from keyboard 1.
These two cables ( out and thru ) are then connected into a midi
merge box, and summed by the computer therein.
Lastly, one midi cable out from the merge box into Micro B 2, and as
we say in the UK, Bob's your uncle, which means, you're cooking.
There ain't no way round getting yourself a merge box when 2 is going
into 1. Occasionally, I believe, some modules do have built in merge
features with 2 midi in sockets but this is not common as it adds to
the production costs and may not ever be used.
The Hammond XM1, which is also 3 midi channel capable, providing for
pedal draws, doesn't feature multi-channel inputs and like the Micro
B 2, will need two merge boxes to handle signals from two keyboards
and a pedalboard.
Regards.

trying to do what you have suggested in your post. I have set the
Micro to "M" and have set the Midi selector to a midi channel that
used the next two adjacent channels.
