You generally pay an awful lot for Viscount products in the States.
Check out www.turnkey.uk.com to get a measure of the mark up.
I bought the DB3 module from them. For the UK price it's very, very
good value, but as a top line clone it doesn't measure up IMHO.
It falls down particularly in its vib/chorus and Leslie sim.
If you feed it into a Leslie or MS product and don't need a great
vib/chorus then fair enough, it has good basic sound, good noise,
reasonable distortion, key click, third manual bass, percussion, amp
simulation, reverb even, and fair midi implimentation. They've
almost nailed the beating problem that plagued the OB3^2, and
presumably the OB5. It sounds very good through my Dynacord CLS, but
that's more money, and the Korg has a great Leslie sim built in.
This is of course just my opinion but I think when it comes to
getting a Hammond Clone, it's not worth compromising because if it's
good it isn't really going to become outdated, so you don't need to
keep upgrading. I've also bought an Electro Rack and Speakeasy Stereo
Classic preamp, which is a stunning combination and I expect to keep
these two items forever as they've nailed the sound well enough for
me. I'm keeping the DB3 to provide comp when I switch over to epianos
on the Electro.
Well that's my two pence worth.
Good luck, Thomas.
