Subject:Re: Missing Electro notes solved!
Dean,
This is interesting to me. My Nord Electro 73 does stop at the low 'F'.
However it will produce the low 'E' if triggered by an external keyboard.
In fact, if you disassemble the Electro 73, the Fatar keyboard assembly has
been chopped off to remove the low 'E' key, but the switch is still there
and if you push it with a pencil, guess what? Low 'E' plays! This has
always puzzled me, because I was originally a Rhodes player and I depended
on that low 'E', and I just naturally assumed the Electro 73 would be the
same configuration. Boy , was I surprised when I took it out of the box.
To make matters worse, the octave shift function is disabled on the 73, so I
can't even use that note if I want to shift the keyboard down an octave.
The logic at Clavia was that they didn't want blank notes present on the
keyboard, but I'd be happy to work around a few blank notes on those times
when I really want that low 'E''. I hope they'll allow the octave shift to
be enabled in the next OS revision. Having said all that, I still love the
Electro and it's the most musical instrument I've bought in decades. I have
found that some folks out there seem to get it and some don't. And if a
player is puzzled by the Electro, it's best to let them just go on buying
the latest YamaKorgSuzRol because no amount of explanation will change
their mind. To each his own!
Cheers, Ken
