One of the sad things is they never made it big nationally until after Duane
died. That unfortunately was what gave them the big publicity push to put
them over the top. Many musicians everywhere knew who they were but the
public-at-large wasn't as aware of them. The band I was in at that time
played a lot of Allman Brothers & people looked at us like we were from Mars.
They were better known in the Southern states at that time but we had moved
from NC to NY right as the New York bands were dropping in popularity & the
Southern bands were starting to make a stir. Timing is everything. A sad i
rony is that Atlantic/ATCO lost 2 of thier top session guys within a very
short period, Duane & King Curtis.

To go a bit more off-topic: Another great Southern band from that era was
Edgar Winter's White Trash. No Hammond at all - live Edgar played that crappy
RMI piano live, but a different perspective from that whole genre. I was
lucky enough to catch them live too before thier original drummer Bobby
Rameriz was killed. Another tragic loss. If you get a chance check out thier
Roadwork album, another live offering. A lot of Soul mixed in with the Rock.
