Subject:Re: Live at Fillmore East (getting way OT)
Stevie Ray Vaughan is my favoriate blues/rock guitarist, on a level
by himself. HOWEVER, I am old enuf and was fortunate enuf to twice
see the Allman Bros. play twice with Duane. IMHO, if he had lived,
he would have given SRV a run for it. At the time, I thought he was
the best white blues guitarist I had ever heard, both with slide and
without, including Hendrix, Clapton, Butterfield, et al. It still
makes want to cry when I think of how his talent was wasted.
Just my opinion...
PS: I was also played in a band with Twiggs Lyndon, a former Allman
Bros road manager. His is the "picture on the wall" on the Live at
Fillmore East album. At the time, he was in prison for shooting a
promoter in NY who had refused to pay the band. Once, in Macon, he
let us (our band) play the Allman Bros. "practice" rigs. The quality
of the sound was unbelievable. Unfortunately, he died in a skydiving
accident.
