Subject:"just dropped in"/clone quiz
Have listened to "Just Dropped In" a few times-got it on Kazaa (sorry if
you're offended, I previously owned the original album and greatest hits
albums, I feel I've already paid for it) This is the first time I've
listened to it in many years.
The organ sounds very "House of the Rising Sun"esque, which I think was done
on a Farfisa, but at on point sounds very much like a Vanilla Fudge thing,
so, who knows. I hear no Leslie.
Dig that envelope follower, reverse delay, or whatever sound effect that was
used on the little guitar intro...actually, after listening again, I think
that it was just recorded, then played backwards.
Neat little thing with xylophone effect (I think that's a rhodes, maybe) in
unison with the bass. Guess it could be a real xylophone, one with vibrato.
I think thats called a vibrophone, if I remember correctly from the high
school band. Wonder if they did it first, its on another song from the
period, but I can't remember which off the top of my head.
CLONE QUIZ:
I didn't listen to the clone quiz when it was first mentioned, I knew I
wouldn't know which was which. I listened to it after the results came out.
LOVED THE INTRO, and the run at the end. Goosebump kind of stuff! To me,
the V5 sounded better on the percussive stuff, though not enough keyclick,
the B4 sounded best on the chords, but not much better than the CX3. The
keyclick on the B4 scanner full bar was about right. I personally didn't
think the Leslie effect on any of them was very good, the ramp up is best on
B4, but didn't care for the fast on any of them.
I probably would have known that none of them were the real thing, but they
were all close, and sounded pretty good, close enough for a band setting, I
would imagine. I still would like to have one, but would probably end up
getting a real Leslie.
