For me it was Deep Purple's HUSH. I didn't know what a Hammond was before I was 15, though I had heard that sound before. HUSH is what finally gave me the motivation to pursue the interest further.
The ironic thing is it was 1982 when I first heard that song, and the Hammond sound couldn't have been more UN-popular in music at any other time than the early to mid 80's. So I had an uphill battle convincing my high school friends at the time that this stuff was cool. They laughed at me..."O'Flaherty, you're whacked! F-in' organ music!"
I guess I found something in Deep Purple and the other organ bands of that time that I didn't find in Madonna and Duran-Duran, so I guess I was the guy who always prefered the road less traveled. And I think I got more out of music because of it, than my friends did.
Many influences since, but Hush started it all.
