Actually, most people who notice the laptop are impressed that all that sound is coming from a soft synth program. I haven't (yet) had someone bash me for not using the real thing, or for being too techy with my space age rig. I have had a lot of other musicians thank me for not bringing the real thing, since they wouldn't like to carry it. ;-)
